I mean , 10 years and their output rate is supposed to tire us out—and it does. But we’re still invested, in differing levels . We’re still affected, in some way. We want to see this through. We root for them. It can’t be that much of a secret, can it?
See, I’ve observed a lot of the fan reaction on Reddit and elsewhere, and they all surprise me, even if it’s what I anticipated. That can’t have come from nothing. We’re supposed to be bored by now, and I think we are, but the trailer an d the fan edits for each character still pull at heartstrings.
Why can’t Warner do the same? What did they miss? What does it actually take to pull off an arc like the MCU? Most shonen anime can’t do this half as well. Is there a difference?
Go on, let’s talk about this. Let’s confront this massive franchise head-on.

Said it in another thread, I’m bored of this franchise. Only Deadpool and Guardians entertain me.

This video brings to mind something that’s been bothering me and I keep pushing it aside- the name “Avengers”.
It was never really explained, at least not in t he movies (at least, not yet?) . There was something called the “Avenger Initiative” without any details on who or what was being “avenged”. At one point Stark tells Loki that they’ll avenge the earth if they can’t protect it, and if that’s supposed to shed some insight on the in-universe reasoning behind the name... I dunno, it sounds kinda defeatist.
However solid the naming is or isn’t, I get the sense that Thanos’ victory in Infinity War was the filmmaker’s intent from the start. Stark’s quote sets it up perfectly. They failed to protect the e arth, and maybe in the process of avenging it, they’ll make up for tha t.

They made Iron Man to be a good film. All by itself. They grounded it without making it grim dark. The fictional technology was passable. No mystics, aliens, or even a super power. At the end the added a bombshell of a post credit scene to tease the future without influencing any other part of the movie .
They presented their world that was for all intents and purposes our world. Then they built onto it. It was a slow burn. 3 years and a sequel between Ironman and Thor, then Captain America.
WB could have done it on the back of the Chris Nolan trilogy, but some how squandered it.

I’ve seen almost all of them (missed the Ant Man & Wasp movie) but never on opening weekend and often have waited until the “individual” movies hit the movie channels or Netflix. So I certainly would not put myself in the fanboy category. That said, I am really looking forward to Avengers 4 and probably will see it opening weekend.

Still one of the things that bugs me about the later movies with Iron man. The suit WAS believable and it was hard earned but then suddenly. “oh yeah, magic...er...nano tech suit.” I like that the Ironman tech felt grounded, now its just “its way more convenient this way”

I’m definitely bored with Marvel movies, and big franchise tentpole movies in general . Infinity War came out when I was in the middle of a cross-country move and even though it stayed in theaters for several weeks afterwards we kept not making it to see it. We ended up renting it online and I’m glad I did, because it was a slog. There’s only so many different ways for people with superpowers to repeatedly, bloodlessly, punch each other.

Each was a step beyond the last. The Mark I was truly the crude cave built Ironman. He had 42 iterations of the suit and 22 movies to get to the point of Nano tech suit . Including, most importantly, the introduction of Wakanden technology.
Goes back to my point of start by introducing us to this fantasy world that is much like ours and over the course of 10 years and a score of movies develop a world that has been presented in the Marvel comics over the last 50 years.
That’s what made the Marvel series work. Opposed the DC approach of Mother Boxes, Cybogs, Flash men, Aqua men, and other worldly threats all tossed into the first couple films.

So many spicy takes in here...
They’re solid movies that are at the same time grounded in reality as they serve as an escape. They worked in a sense of humor without being cheesy, and some darkness without being depressing. It appeals to a very wide audience with likable heroes that make you want to root them on.
I do think it’s a bit unfair to say Warner can’t do the same - maybe not with super heroes , but Harry Potter was a phenomenon that spread across 8 films and 10 years. It differs from Marvel in that it centers on a single story line from a single source, but it was a humongous success.
Marvel also nailed the ‘teaser’ in ways I don’t think any other franchise has, with the benefit of an easily understood source material. They showed Thanos what, 6 years ago? It hinted at a much larger universe, and once people began to understand what that character might be the anticipation drew audiences to theaters waiting to see what would happen next.
